So, Robert is Tigger, right? And JPJ is Owl. Is Jimmy Rabbit? And who is Bonzo? Roo? Hmm … maybe Jimmy’s Owl and JPJ is Christopher Robin. Or, wait, maybe Jimmy is Christopher Robin. Somebody weigh in please. I’ve been pondering this far too long tonight.
I’ll spare your eyes of my “pooger” rendition *shudders*
“Robert has white wings that flew him above the fray. He flew above it and smiled and laughed. He didn’t need a driver, he didn’t need a retinue. The difference between him and Jimmy was that he could step outside the whole thing and observe it. He had a mystical view of things.” Michael Des Barres (taken from Barney Hoskyns’ Led Zeppelin, The Oral History of the World’s Greatest Rock Band)

I so love pics like this that show the sides of the stage. What a production it was. Jimmy’s double neck waiting to be ravaged. And the people hanging out. I’d like to say they were in awe but maybe they’d seen it a dozen or more times. Such a strange contrast to the kids in the audience. That juxtaposition fascinates me.
Stumbled upon this boot a few days ago. Another mind blowing show from 72. Here’s a link. It’s a decent audience recording, and I love the ambiance. You can hear somebody try to mimic the wail in Immigrant Song at the beginning, and then when Robert comes in with the real thing – holy shit. Chills. It’s one of my favorite versions. Check it out – they’re all at the top of their game.
